A Nursery That Refused to Look Like Every Other Nursery
Cookies Island is a children's nursery and play centre nestled inside Ilford Exchange Shopping Centre. But from the very first conversation, it was clear this wasn't going to be a typical nursery signage job. The brand is built around a contemporary reimagining of traditional nursery environments — think serene colour schemes, a wellness-centred philosophy, and a deliberate move away from the garish primary colours that dominate the sector.
Working Inside a Shopping Centre
Shopping centre installations come with a unique set of headaches. Every element had to be approved in advance — RAMS documentation, centre permits, strict operating rules around installation hours and access. Ilford Exchange runs a tight ship, and there was zero room for improvisation on logistics. We submitted all documentation early and worked within controlled hours to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
Interpreting the Brand Without Losing Its Soul
The creative challenge was finding a visual language that felt warm and child-friendly without resorting to the usual clichés. We developed nature-themed backgrounds, delicate leaf motifs, and centred the design around their signature parrot mascot. The palette stayed calm and grounded — exactly what the Cookies Island team wanted.

The real measure of this project was consistency. From the moment shoppers saw the hoarding, through to the illuminated fascia and into the café itself, the brand experience had to feel continuous.
